Buchbeschreibung Collins Crime, 1997. Hardcover. Buchzustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. This is a signed, near fine first edition, first impression in a fine dust wrapper. There are no marks or inscriptions of any kind. The only writing is the author’s neat signature to the title page. The book is tight and square with the usual (in this case light) age toning to the page block (just sufficient to prevent a grading of ‘fine’). The cream boards are pristine as is the gilt lettering to the spine. The unclipped dust wrapper is complete with a tiny amount of edge rippling (hardly noticeable). The colours are vibrant. The original price of £15.99 remains. The dust wrapper is now protected by a removable, acid free acetate sleeve. The book presents as new and unread. Mr Taylor is one of the UK’s most supremely talented authors. He attended Cambridge University where he took a degree in English before becoming a writer after a spell at the University of London. He is probably best known for his Bergerac novels. However, with due respect to our Channel Island’s sleuth, Mr Taylor is a writer of much greater talent and diversity than is perhaps evident in that series of five books. Mr Taylor has won a plethora of awards including the Cartier Diamond Dagger, the most prestigious British award for general excellence in writing. ‘The Four Last Things’ is the first novel in the highly acclaimed ‘Roth Series’. Set in the village of Roth with a strong ecclesiastical theme, these three interlocking novels are prime examples of the gothic psychological drama. Once again Mr Taylor turns his hand to a new genre with conspicuous success. In this collectible condition, this book will be a worthy addition to any library or collection. The images you see are high resolution scans of the actual book you will receive. It will be dispatched via The Royal Mail in protective packaging. We do not charge postage to buyers within the UK. Those from outside the UK are asked to contact us before purchasing. We offer a 7 day no quibble full refund if the item is not as described and shown. Extra scans are available on request. We have most of Mr Taylor’s novels in our catalogue. We welcome enquiries. Buchnummer des Verkäufers 1240

Buchbeschreibung Toronto, ON: Alfred A Knopf Canada, 2004, 1st Edition, First Printing, Toronto, Ontario, 2004. Hard Cover. Buchzustand: Near Fine (see description). Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine (see description). Photo Cover (illustrator). First Edition. ----------hard cover, a Near Fine copy in a Near Fine dust jacket, signed, inscribed and dated 2004 on the title page by Doyle, inscription reads, "To ___, You're a fine shite!, Roddy Doyle 30/9/'04, gift inscription, ---" With his sequel to A Star Called Henry, Roddy Doyle continues the story of the infamous yet irresistible Henry Smart. An extraordinary man to be sure, Henry is also every man who ever hoped for a different kind of life and a better future. ---When Oh, Play That Thing opens it is 1924, and Henry is sailing into New York Harbor. His job in Dublin now finished, this is Henry's chance for a fresh start, to leave his murderous past behind and begin life anew: "America was everything possible," he says. ---Indeed, things for Henry do start out with promise. His many "talents" combined with his unsurpassed survival instinct make finding work easy—the hard part is staying out of trouble. Despite his desire for a fresh start, Henry is unable to keep the dark side of the world at bay and soon realizes that leaving Dublin was not the end of his running but the beginning, as he enters a race against time for his own survival. ---Henry moves from place to place, making one narrow escape after another, always landing on his feet and reinventing himself each time. In Chicago, he befriends the great Louis Armstrong, on the cusp of stardom, and becomes Armstrong's "white man." When the "hard guys" are on his heels again, he returns to New York -Harlem this time-still at Armstrong's side. But the ghosts of Henry's past just won't let go, and before long he's on the run again, crisscrossing America in pursuit of his life, his liberty, and his elusive wife, Miss O'Shea. ---Telling Henry's epic story in his distinctive, captivating writing style, Roddy Doyle takes us breathlessly and effortlessly between two worlds, the Dublin of Henry's past and the cities and towns of America—very different places yet ironically very much the same. As Henry discovers, you can leave a place, but your past comes along with you. "---, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo. Signed.
