Inhaltsangabe: Sarah and James play in an abandoned northern English railroad cottage, imagining old steam trains rumbling by, and in the hissing rain of a sudden thunderstorm, a train comes--but is it real, or is it a phantom from the past?
From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 3-Lovely endpapers showing the English countryside open this pleasant story. An old railway line runs through the farm where Sara and James live. Although the tracks are gone, a worker's hut is still standing, and the children want to make it into a place where they can play. Their parents agree to help fix it up and the family spends a happy afternoon doing repairs. While they sit in the "cottage" and listen to Dad talk about the steam trains of his childhood, a thunderstorm brews. When the children rush outside, they see a locomotive roaring down a track and wave to the driver. They all head home through the storm and when Sara looks back, the track is gone once again. This is a quiet, realistic family story whose fantasy element is handled in a believable way. Lewis's colored-pencil artwork is wonderful. As in The Shepherd Boy (Four Winds, 1990) and Floss (Candlewick, 1992), she uses naturalistic pictures to complement the text, providing readers with an accurate and inviting picture of a rural world. An appealing book on the power of trains to ignite youngsters' imagination and dreams.
