This book is the first of two volumes examining operational management in the leisure field. This volume is concerned with giving leisure management a context and explaining the principles and application of four core concepts relating to the operation of leisure facilities. These key areas are - programming, multi-use and joint provision, sponsorship and organizing a special event. Within each section the authors outline and explain the operating principles and at the end of each section, case material is provided to enable readers to examine how the principles and techniques can be applied to operating situations. The Longman Leisure Management series provides guides to the management of the expanding leisure services field. Written for practitioners, by officers and trainers familiar with the leisure field and its management requirements, the series stresses the broad areas of management competence required in leisure management. The series has been developed in consultation with the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM) and it reflects the ILAM examination syllabuses.
