It has so often entered my mind that of all benefits early maternal instruction is the greatest and most lasting. The whole character and all that is good in it are built up on this foundation, and since you have brought up eight children to be honourable men, their gratitude and God's blessing must rest on you. You are so accustomed, dear mother, to seek your own happiness in our welfare, that I trust our dear Guste's marriage will afford you pleasure.
