Hardcover. The Atlantic Monthly Press, 1920. Condition: Very Good Presumed 2nd Edition, only copyright date 1920 appears; includes Preface and Preface to Second Edition 2 Volumes. Blue cloth covers with printed paper labels pasted onto spine. Gilt on top edges. No dust jackets. Covers have light wear head and foot of spine. B&W illustrations. Frontis portraits of William James protected with tissue guards`. Vol I 348 pages, with Frontispiece includes 3 other B&W portraits along with 6 pencil sketches by young James. Vol. II 384 pages including index, in addition to frontis portrait includes three plates containing 4 candid photos of James, family and friends, as well as a facsimile of a postcard from James. Occasional pencilled notations along side text at end of a letter, presumably date read, written year/month/day, 25-8-21. Some notations include, R.J.H, for Roscoe James Ham, the volumes early owner. Has ink script notation in hand of Edward Pols, From the library of the late Roscoe J. Ham, Harvard 96, Professor at Bowdoin College. Gift of his son, Edward Ham. Pols was a long time professor at Bowdoin. Edward Billings Ham, Bowdoin 1922 was a Rhodes Scholar. Both Hams received honorary degrees from Bowdoin, in 1944 and 1952 respectively.
