The volume includes a colour plate of coats of arms, engravings of the houses in which she lived, and several facsimiles of her letters. Published in French Revered in France as one of the great literary icons of seventeenth century France, Madame de Sévigné was a French aristocrat who is remembered for her witty and vivid letter-writing. With a prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Rebound in a quarter leather binding over marbled boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards. Very lightly rubbed to the joints, with a little wear to the calf at the head and tail of the spine. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages.
