Brown leather spines with five raised bands, leather title labels with gilt titling, gilt designs, and polished tree-calf covers with the gilt seal of The Hotchkiss School with 1891 date and a Latin motto on the center of each front cover; gilt borders, with the binder's stamp of Bickers & Son, London in each volume. Marbled endpapers and edges. A set of school prize books. Each volume bears a special bookplate on the front paste-down reading" "The Huber Gray Buehler Prize in English Awarded, June 18, 1927 to Nelson P. Rose." The bookplates have a photo-engraved portrait of H. G. Buehler, and the date and the recipient's name are hand-written in ink. Spine ends show light wear, rubbing to raised bands of spines. The prize-winner, Nelson P. Rose, later became a partner in the Cleveland-based law firm Jones, Day. During the Eisenhower administration he was general counsel to the U. S.
