Beschreibung
A catalogue of various pre-1740 English works. Written by Arundell Esdaile, a British librarian, and the Secretary to the British Museum from 1926 to 1940. Dealing with tales and prose romances, the volume contains two parts, being 1475-1642 and 1643-1739, and makes for a detailed reference to this relatively niche subject. Featuring a signed, handwritten letter by the author, loosely inserted: [To Recto] '[Unintelligible] Pray excuse my delay in replying to your letter of last week. I have been away from Manchester for a few days, and find it awaiting me on my return! I have pleasure in sending you, on the other side, a transcript of the title and colophon your copy of "Arthur of Little Brytayn", by which you will find Hazlitt is at fault. I hope you will not hesitate at any time to ask for any transcript or collation or any other information of which you may be in need. Yours faithfully A. Esdaile [To Verso] 'Arthur of Brytayn The hystory of the moost noble and valyaunt knyght Arthur of lytell brytayne, translated out of frensshe in to englisshe by the noble Iohan bourghcher knyght lorde Barners, newly imprynted. Slight markings to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean throughout, aside from the odd instance of spotting to the endpages, with some chipping to the extremities. Letter by author loosely inserted between pastedown and front free end paper, written on 'John Rylands Library Manchester' headed paper. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers GEN39-B-16
