The story traces the life of a drop of water from the ocean, through evaporation into a beautiful cloud, and her travels through the sky. When she falls into a dirty river or bay it makes her sick, and she is happy to return to the clean ocean. This time she freezes into a beautiful snowflake. She lands on a tree, melts, and travels down a pretty stream into a water purification plant. She then travels through a long pipe into a glass of water drunk by a small child. After going through the child's body, hydrating him, helping him to digest his food, and cleansing his body of things that could make him sick, she goes through the toilet back into a water purification plant that removes the bad things from her. Finally she travels through a beautiful river back into the ocean, where she begins all over again.

Lit'l Drip was a small salty drop of water in the big ocean. She had been a drop of water forever.
Lit'l Drip loved it when storms churned up the sea and created huge waves. When the wind blew the tops off the waves she loved flying through the air.
One day while she was flying through the air with the other drops of water just like she was, the heat of the sun made her lighter and lighter. As she became lighter she evaporated into water vapor leaving her salt behind and she was lifted into the sky.
As Lit'l Drip rose into the sky she became cooler and was soon so high that she joined many other water drops to become a beautiful fluffy white cloud. As a cloud, Lit'l Drip drifted high above the earth over the ocean and finally over the land. She drifted far north and became even colder but the cold didn't bother her.
Sometimes after a long trip through the sky Lit'l Drip would fall softly to the ground as light rain, filling the air with the sweet smell of fresh rain on a warm summer afternoon.
Other times Lit'l Drip would join with other water drops that formed into a hard frozen ball of ice and then the ball of ice, called "hail," would plummet to the ground hitting the ground hard and bouncing.
And sometimes she would join other drops of water becoming a raging thunderstorm, pounding the ground in wild fury with flashes of bright lightning and crashes of loud thunder. This was very exciting.
Sometimes Lit'l Drip fell into a flowing river or large bay. When these rivers and bays were dirty they made her sick. Then she was happy to get back to the clean ocean.
This time she felt herself freezing and she turned into a beautiful snowflake. This was her favorite: as a snowflake she was different from all of the other snowflakes around her. She was beautiful. Now she felt herself floating gently down, down, down through the air finally landing softly on a tree.
Soon the sun came out and Lit'l Drip melted back into a tiny drop of water and dropped to the ground.
On the ground Lit'l Drip traveled downhill to a small stream and then into a beautiful river.
From the river Lit'l Drip was drawn into a big pool with many other drops of water. Suddenly she was sprayed high into the air!
This reminded Lit'l Drip of being in an ocean storm. It was fun! Now she was clean but she smelled funny because chlorine was added to her and to the other drops of water so the water would be safe for people to drink.
Then Lit'l Drip rushed through a long pipe to the home of a nice family. Suddenly she was looking out at bright sunlight as she was poured into a glass of water.
She saw a small hand around the glass and she found herself rushing down the child's throat as he took a drink of the cool fresh water.
As Lit'l Drip traveled through the child's body she provided the water that he needed to digest his food and to hydrate his body. She also removed all of the bad things that could make him sick.
After removing all the things from the child's body that could make him sick Lit'l Drip left the child and fell into a toilet. When the child flushed the toilet she was whirled around and around.
Then Lit'l Drip found herself in a large pool with lots of other drops of water where the bad things that she had taken from the child's body were washed away. Now she felt clean and fresh again.
Out into the sunlight again Lit'l Drip found herself with many other drops of water rushing along down the hills and through the woods in a bright sun-dappled stream. Sometimes they tumbled over rocks and sometimes they all rested in quiet pools. This was nice!
After a while Lit'l Drip was back in the ocean absorbing salt.
