This is an antique collection of sports-themed poetry, "The Little Book of Sports" - compiled and edited with an Introduction by Wallace and Frances Rice. Included is the famous baseball poem "CASEY AT THE BAT" by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. 1910; The Reilly & Britton Co.; Chicago. Color frontispiece with decorative floral end papers. Poetry categories include Baseball, Basketball, Bicycling, Football, Fishing, Golf, Hockey, Horse Racing, Archery, Tennis, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Wrestling, Yachting, and more. Poets include Walt Whitman, Andrew Lang, Thomas Hardy, Robert Browning, and more. The book measures 6 3/4" tall x 5 1/4" wide.
Condition:
Corner wear, and some shelf wear along the edges of the boards. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Pages 20, 21, 37, 51 each have a line of verse in parentheses, or with an arrow or vertical line next to a line of verse. Mild foxing at the lower-outer corners of pages 14-21, and 2 small light stains at the top of page 5. There is a name written in old ink handwriting on the front end paper.
