ant to create harmony within your relationships? Discover your unique personality and how you relate to others. Understand better why people think or act the way they do. The Productive Cycle illustrated in Figure 1, represents how the Five Elements in nature support each other. People also support each other in a similar manner.
Why do certain relationships go smoothly while others are a struggle? Once you find your Element, one of the five, you'll discover a major key to understand and change your life for the better.
Your element is associated with your innate personality type, based on your year of birth. The chart shows us how these elements work in nature. As Fire burns, it leaves behind ashes and replenishes the Earth. Earth supports Metal as Metal comes out of the Earth. Metal strengthens Water as seen when condensation forms on the Metal of an automobile. Water helps plants and trees grow, which supports Wood. Wood helps Fire burn more intensely when Wood is added to a campfire. These cycles constantly reoccur and are symbolic in relationships.

When I charted Tara Lipinski, the 1998 Gold Metal Ice Skating champion, born June 10, 1982, I found her to be a Metal-Yang. It was perfectly fitting that Tara had been skating with Metal ice skates on frozen Water (the parent of Water) for years. It was also no wonder Tara won the Gold in Nagano, Japan, a landscape of mountains; Metal is supported by Earth.
To discover your element, search the Birth Chart in Figures 2 through 5 for your birth year. The element for males is listed in the center column and the female elements are on the right. Each year starts on February 5.
Note: Those born before February 5 would use the previous year to determine their correct element. Example: Anyone born January 16, 1937 would select the year Feb. 5, 1936 to Feb. 4, 1937. Males would be Water Yin and females Earth Yang. Once you discover your own personal element, you will be able to look up your unique personality description in this chapter, illustrated by the personal element charts Figures 6 through 13. Be sure to note your Yin or Yang type along with your element.
At the same time you may want to make a list and locate others such as: family members, your siblings, children, partner, parents, business associates and close friends. This chapter provides those people who are most compatible to you.
Now that you know your element type, refer to the Productive Cycle Chart in Figure 1 to find the location of your personal element. Notice the element that supports your personal element. Example: Wood is supported by Water. You will have a very compatible relationship when your element is the same or located adjacent to another person's element type. When there is one element missing between two elements on the Productive Cycle Chart the relationship may be more challenging and less compatible. According to the Dominant Cycle Chart, Chapter 5, Figure 20, one person will be more dominant. To bring balance to the relationship, refer to the Productive Cycle and bring into the relationship the one missing element. Such as: when an Earth and Water type are in a relationship, according to the Productive Cycle, the missing element is Metal.
To bring about a more harmonious relationship, this couple might choose to work out at the gym together where there is the element of metal, go bike riding, travel in metal planes, or automobiles, and/or trains. All of these examples are ways to bring metal into the relationship. Sometimes a child with a Metal personal trigram comes into the family to bring about balance between two people. Sometimes the house type will be of the element to bring about compatibility. It will be important to bring in the missing element to have harmony in that relationship. Chapters 6-8 help to explain how to bring balance to different relationships. Find your element in Figures 6 through 13 to see the details and innate qualities associated with your personal element type.
Note: There are two types of Earth, Metal, and Wood; one is Yin and the other is Yang. There is one Fire, Yang, and one Water, Yin. These two elements Fire and Water are illustrated on the Yin and Yang Symbol in Chapter...
