Popular Edition 1904 so first thus. 5 x 7¾" very good in original red cloth with decorated gilt stamped spines. Stamped strip on front board, in gilt on 2 volumes. Vols are: Metcalfe - Telford History of Roads, pp. xiv + 412 with 7 full-page maps and 68 line illustrations including 8 maps and plans, slightly stained boards. George and Robert Stevenson The Locomotive, pp. xliv + 466 + [8] publisher's advertisements with 7 full-page plates and 69 line illustrations including 5 maps; prize label to fep and smalll tear to top of spine. Boulton and Watt The Steam-Engine, pp. xii + 481 with 5 full-page plates and 61 line illustrations; ink inscription, and two small strange illustrations in prelims. Vermuyden - Myddelton - Perry - James Brindley Early Engineering; pp. xxxvi + 380 + [8] publisher's advertisements with 6 full-page plates and 49 line illustrations including 13 maps and plans, sticker on fep with photo of Smiles and his signature and the same small illustration as the previous volume. Smeaton and Rennie Harbours - Lighthouses - Bridges; pp. xii + 459 with 7 full-page plates and 78 line illustrations including 13 maps and plans.
