Beschreibung:
A bright copy of John Stow's best-known work, a survey of Elizabethan London, edited by Henry Morley. An uncommon work, in the publisher's original cloth binding. Stamps to the half title and title pages. Stow's Survey of London (original spelling: A Survay of London), first published in 1598, contains a detailed topographical and historical tour of the city, providing a unique account of its buildings, social conditions and customs. This edition, based on the original 1598 edition, was edited by Henry Morley. 3 pages of publisher's advertisements to the front and 5 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the volume. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just some small faint marks to the boards and light shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Colour and gilt remain bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 854M4

Covers are well thumbed and rubbed, with some small swathes of discolouration upon spine and edges. Head and tail of spine bumped, corners smooth and bear some moderate wear and tear. Spine is bearing heavy damage. One third of the spine missing at the tail and large chips at the head. Edges are heavily rubbed and worn. Free endpapers, pastedowns, title pages and most pages throughout bear moderate discolouration and light foxing. Previous owner's inscription upon front pastedown along side previous bookseller's stamp. Page edges are moderately discoloured. Head edge gilt. Binding is tidy in light of spine damage.
