Phyllis (Kathryn) Washington Stone-lovingly called 'PK' by her dad-has been writing since childhood, when school assignments first sparked her love for poetry and storytelling. She believes that all of us carry stories waiting to be told, and she's spent a lifetime listening, observing, and finding the words to bring the stories inside of her to life.Born and raised on Chicago's South Side, Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Among the many gifts afforded to her throughout her time as a student there, she attributes the ND community with nurturing and cultivating her love of creation. Though she found her professional career in the field of corporate marketing, her heart has always been drawn to the deeper layers of communication-how we connect, express, and make meaning-through storytelling -which further helps us become a force for conversion, change, and ultimately good in the world.Phyllis is married to Jim Stone, Jr, mother to Alexander James Stone, and proud grandmother to Farrah Renae Stone. Each of them, separately and together, inspires her writing, her wonder, and her desire to share the beauty she sees in the world-especially the kind that floats above us in the ever-changing sky. 'Oh My! Look Up At The Sky' is her love letter to wonder, childhood, and the simple magic of looking up.
Giao Williams has been making pictures since she was a little girl. Her favorite subjects to capture then were ice cream scoops in criss-crossed waffle cones, houses with happy windows and frilly curtains, and sweet dogs and bunnies because they're just about the best soft and fuzzy things on earth. One of her favorite memories of artistic discovery is of painting side-by-side with her dad in a cozy corner of the living room at her red and yellow Mickey Mouse art desk. Through the years, Giao continued to find joy and comfort in creating drawings from inspiring everyday moments.Though Giao didn't follow formal art-making for a few years while attending The University of Notre Dame in The College of Arts and Letters, she still saved room every school year to take a few elective art courses that sparked joy. Giao graduated with a degree in American Studies and Computer Applications and worked for several years in Letters as a business analystwhile steadily keeping Arts going in her free time. One of her favorite things to do is take art classes to keep creating and thinking creatively, which eventually led her to work more in the Arts. Giao committed to creating art full-time in 2020, when she illustrated her first children's book, authored by a friend who is also a fellow Notre Dame alumna.Giao is a Midwestern girl who grew up in Indiana and now lives in New Jersey with her husband, two daughters, and their big, sweet hound mix dog. She loves gathering inspiration on morning dogwalks, in the dapple of afternoon drives, in the morsels of magic in everyday living. Her favorite art materials are colored pencils on toothy paper and her iPad.
