Bumping to top edge and staining to top edge of board and top page fore-corners going in maybe 5mm, stain line extending further along top edge on the first few pages. No wrinkling thereby. The paper is very age darkened with strong extra tanning to the edges. Paper clean and dry smelling, its just the effect of high acid content paper tanning over time. Of the dust jacket, the best featutre is the complete front panel artwork by Nina K. Brisley (who else!) The spine panel though, has a one-inch section missing and half-inch loss at spine top, corner chips at base. The word "staircase" is present, the author name is mis-aligned due to a very amateur tape job underneath. The plain darker blue of the spine panel matches a little the lighter blue of the book spine, so shelf appeal is not entirely gone. A thoughtful later owner has placed the whole in a clear protective and removable sleeve. There are several owner markings in pen/pencil on the inner pastedown and half-title page, not too detracting. Size: 12mo. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers L22517

Creasing and some tears to edges of price-clipped dustwrapper, bottom inch missing at the spine and also a piece from lower right-hand corner of front panel. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of blue boards, some fading where the dustwrapper pieces are missing, original owner's Sunday School prize label dated 1956 inside front board, some yellowing to the pages, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. The story involves a girl from New Zealand who is the closest relative to the Gellibrand family of Dragon House on the Welsh border coming to claim her inheritance. Not a Chalet School story, but connected to the series in that the New Zealand girl Jesanne and her friend Lois appear in "Lavender Laughs at the Chalet School" in the sixth form.
