Edition limited to one thousand copies, of which this is No. 117. Facsimile reproduction to commemorate the Bicentenary of the building of the World's first Iron Bridge in 1779 over the River Severn in Shropshire. Original edition published by Robert Bowyer, London, in 1805. All text, including the title-page, appears in both English and French. Dark-green buckram-covered boards, with spine and corners in dark-green leather; gilt lettering to spine and ruling to both boards; protected by specially made baize-lined box. 340 x 480 x 24mm (book); 37 x 51 x 40mm (case). Text in English and French. Silk head- and tail-bands; all edges gilt. The colour pictures, all on verso pages with text opposite, comprise: Chigwell Row, Margate, Dudley Castle, The Needles (Isle of Wight), Brathay Bridge, Carisbrooke Castle, Coalbrook Dale (Shropshire), Melin Y Nant (near Snowdon), Ramsgate Harbour, Ruin at Basingstoke (Hampshire), Winander Mere (Wyndermere), Peak's Hole (Derbyshire), Tintern Abbey (Monmouthshire), Snowdon (Caernarvonshire), Chepstow Castle (Monmouthshire), Llyn Ogween (Ogween Lake), Cataract on the Llugwy, Conway Castle. Protective box or case shows fairly minor signs of wear (fading towards top corners, bumping of corners, 4cm split at bottom of spine, a few small white spots on cloth - probably paint); book appears pristine, and shows no obvious signs of having been read or even opened.
