"You can't be serious mom. We planned this trip for half a year now. You can't just cancel it a week before." Lucas was running down the stairs into the living room. His face was red; it was easy to see that he was outraged. He was sixteen years old, quite tall for his age and looked sort of geeky with his badly combed dark-blonde hair.
"I am sorry Lucas, you know how important that business trip is for your father." His mother was following him down the stairs, trying to calm him down.
"Am I supposed to stay at home now during the entire summer? Dad, please, you know how much I like that place on the coast." He had turned towards his father now who had been sitting on the couch in the living room.
"I am sorry son," His father replied "I have to get on that trip next week, there is no way around it."
"Would you like to go there alone honey?" His mother was standing behind him, stroking his hair.
"What good is that? You know as good as I do that there is no way of staying there without a car."
"I am truly sorry boy," his father had stood up as well. "We will try to make it up to you. If there is another place you want to go to? Or perhaps we will be lucky and get a room in August."
"I will think about it. But I don't see a way you could make up for it." He walked out into the garden, slamming the door shut behind him.
He walked through the garden slowly and finally set down on a deckchair. The warm weather on this July afternoon raised his mood a little bit, but nothing could really compensate for the loss of his favorite vacation place, the one where he had spent every summer of his life so far. He had been looking forward to those two weeks for a while now. Even more after the encounter with the Satanist group here in Luton that had climaxed only a week ago. He closed his eyes and let his thoughts roam back to the afternoon near the playground. Watching himself stand there in the portal of the church, side by side with his friends made him smile even now. They had done well that day, crushing this strange group and even fighting off the master.
"Plague ..." Lucas mumbled when his thoughts roamed to the very moment he faced him for the first time. He would never forget him; never rest until he had finally brought him down as well. He was certain that this guy was the root of the evil, and bringing him down was the only way to ensure that something like the Satanists would never happen again in his beloved hometown.
Lucas sat there for more than an hour, before he finally had calmed down enough to think about the rest of the day. His original plan had been to stay at home and prepare for the trip that was supposed to start on Sunday, but now that the trip was off there was no point. And somehow he felt that he had to go out and do something. He normally was not the type of guy to be in public; so coming up with something was not quite easy. He thought about giving his friends a call, but decided against that as well. Finally he had an idea-It was Friday, why not pay a visit to the TimeStop bar and go to the Pagan meeting. He hadn't had much fun there lately, but it seemed better than staying home.
"I'm going to town," He said when he walked by his parents.
"All right honey, have a good time." His mother smiled at him, obviously happy that he had come back in a better mood. He didn't smile back, just went out as quickly as possible.
TimeStop bar never ceased to amaze Lucas. The main room that had hundreds of clocks hanging on the wall, everything from modern ones down to pieces that looked centuries old. And all of them were standing still, every one of them showing a different time. The atmosphere it gave was just great. Time just seemed to stop in here.
He got something to drink at the bar and walked through one of the curtains to a backroom. It was already past 8 p.m. so it was no surprise that the room was already filled with people chatting and reading.
"Welcome back!" a man in his thirties greeted him. "I remember you, you are Lucas Trent, right?"
"Nice memory, Drow. Amazing given the number of people that are here." Lucas smiled at him. "And by the way, please call me Guardian." Lucas remembered the guy as well. He was the initiator of this meeting, a man who called himself Drow.
"So you finally got a real name ..." Drow smiled at him.
"I actually had that one for quite a while now." Lucas grinned and walked to a table that still had seats left.
"May I join you?" he asked the people sitting there. They were in the middle of a discussion about computers and hardly noticed him, so he just sat down and listened in. The discussion quickly proved to be way below Lucas' level, which was not too hard given the fact that he was quite a computer genius, being amongst the best in the entire Luton IT-college. Still as there were no other interesting discussions around either he decided to stay here and just listen.
"Hello my friend." A female voice pulled him out of the discussion just a few minutes later.
He looked up and smiled at the women standing next to him. She was about 30 years old, slightly smaller than him and had long black hair.
"Hello Angel. Nice to see you." He said offering her a chair next to him.
"Nice to see you too, Guardian." She sat down.
After giving it a short thought Lucas' look got suspicious. "What's up, great Mentor?" he asked.
"Why do you think something would be up?" She smiled at him.
"Angel, come on ... You never ever showed up without having a reason so far."
"I see that you are learning quickly." She still smiled. "Well, I have two reasons for being here today."
"Don't let me wait."
"First I wanted to remind you that you have duties to perform."
Lucas looked puzzled. "Really? What do you mean?"
"Did you already forget our last chat? About you guiding your friends towards the transition?"
"No I didn't. But so far none of them have made the fourth Step. Or did I miss something?"
"One of them is very close on that. And two have actually taken it without you noticing." Angel still smiled.
"Hold it, you just lost me. I know that all of them have made two out of the three parts already. And I also know that Whirlwind is close on taking that third...
