This is number 721 of an exceptional leather bound 500 set two-volume edition, in the original French, of the Théophile Gautier classic, Mademoiselle de Maupin (313 + 320 pages), with numerous detailed illustrations by Serge de Solomko, etched by E. Pennequin, published by Librairie des Amateurs, Paris, in 1914, and initialed under the set number by the publisher, F. Ferroud. The leather covers, brown morocco to the spines and corners, marbled fronts and backs, unfaded gilt decoration and lettering, with four raised bands to the spines, are the work of the bindery P. Affolter, with that name stamped to the top of the first blank spread. There are no stains or tears. The spines, with light scuffs to some raised bands, are straight. The marbled inside cover spreads are clean and unfaded, with no stamps, or other attachments, and no writing.There are no stains or tears. The bindings are tight, with no loose or missing pages.
