Meursium, 1627, the Second (1604) Edition of the 1570 Roman Missal (the one mandated by the Council of Trent). Full leather binding with gilt decorated panels, five raised bands and gilt decoration to the spines, gilt titles to a red label. New spine to the original boards, expertly restored with an elegant new spine, repairs internally to page edges. Ten engraved plates, engraved [four-line] initials; red and black text, title page vignette, [96], 720, 8, cxxxviii, [6]pp (final leaf a blank). Collation: A to F in gatherings of 8, A to Yy in gatherings of 8, in gathering of 4, a to i in gatherings of 8 (final page blank). Approximately 8 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine very good condition gilt titles on red label, five raised bands, six compartments with gilt decoration. Joints good condition repaired. Corners good condition expertly repaired. Boards good condition original full leather boards. Page edges good condition all page edges darkened gilt. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact, expertly restored. Paste downs good condition new. End papers good condition first end paper new, others tanned and foxed. Title good condition tanned with foxing, two ink marks either side of Romanum . Pages good condition tanned and foxed, some professional restoration without impacting the text.
