Medium 8vo, c. 9 x 6 inches ( 24 x 15 cm ), pp. 486 + 1, numerous engravings in the text, some full page, all edges gilt, imitation silk endpapers, leather spine and cloth hardback. Text entirely in French. Book condition - Good ; contents show extensive foxing/tanning, especiallly in the preliminaries, no inscriptions, binding firm with inner hinges intact ; deep blue morocco leather spine with title in gilt, raised bands and blind ruled panels with central gilt motif, deep blue cloth on boards with double blind ruled panel ; corners a little rubbed and bent, back very clean, spine complete except for small loss of half of the headcap at the head and small patch of loss, discernible only on close inspection, in the lowest panel, gilt is complete and bright, front is clean. Both spine leather and board cloth in very good order. The contents, rather than being the usual, dry, order-by-order account of insects, are an exposition of the natural history of insects and spiders and their history and relationships with man.
