[4],314,[4]pp., including half title, plus frontispiece, eight plates, and folding map. Titlepage vignette. Contemporary half morocco and marbled boards, spine gilt with raised bands. Light shelf wear, spine worn at extremities. Light tanning and minimal scattered foxing. Very good. First edition. The author, a French naval officer and journalist, travelled extensively in the American West and was involved in cattle ranching in the Dakotas. Of interest both as a travel book and a cattle book, and embellished by charming illustrations. Mandat-Grancey's work proved popular in Paris and was reprinted twice, in 1889 and 1894.
