Mosby was a Confederate officer in the American Civil War known for his command of cavalry battalions. His war experiences were recorded in his personal memoirs, or War Reminiscences, much of which deals with his guerrilla warfare in Northern Virginia, which became known as Mosby's Confederacy. Mosby, also known as the Gray Ghost, describes how he formed a cavalry unit under Stuart and used guerrilla tactics to evade the Union Army during the Civil War.
