Includes dedication page to Prince of Wales and list of subscribers. Small armorial bookplate "E libris Roberti Comitis de Crewe" (Robert, Earl of Crewe - the British Liberal politician, statesman and writer who accumulated a vast and distinguished library.- 1858-1945,) on the front pastedown Bound in half calf over cloth with small gilt wheat sheaf block in centre; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt with contrasting maroon morocco title label, gilt. Occasional margin foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Tipped in letter signed C. Dibdin (see below) addressed to R. W. Elliston Esqre.Leicester,18 Sep 1817,[2] leaves. Illustrated by the engraved text and 19 leaves of the music of 7 songs. Decorated by Prince of Wales badge on dedication page. Reminiscences and accounts of travels in over one hundred letters from the Musical Tour of the composer and dramatist, Charles Dibdin (1764-1814), including the music of seven of his songs. He was a prolific songwriter, providing the music and lyrics for over six hundred, of which the sea song, Tom Bowling, remains the best known. His career in the London theatre included composing for Garrick, but the proposed voyage to India mentioned on the title page was abandoned after his ship put into Torbay in 1788 because of bad weather. The tipped in letter is likely to be from his son, Charles Dibdin, known as The Younger (1768-1833), also a composer, who followed a similar career to his father and who later owned Sadler's Wells Theatre.…

Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
