Uncolored engraved portrait of Sheridan, taken from a photograph by Hoag & Quick. Mild foxing, very light staining and wear, with small tears at the edges of the left and right margins . The elaborate border, designed by John R. Chapin, depicts the Defeat of Rosser's Cavalry and the battle of Cedar Creek at the bottom, unidentified battle scenes at the top. This was one of a small series of fine portraits of Union Civil War leaders published shortly after the war which also included Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Grant, Sherman, Farragut and George Thomas.
