Inhaltsangabe: This work examines the connections between the Horton Foote's strong Texas connections and his literary art while considering the playwright's many decades of experience in the world of American theater and the lessons he learned from such authors as Henrik Ibsen, William Faulkner, and Flannery O'Connor. This book examines several major plays and the autobiographical writings of the distinguished American playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote. As a native of small-town Texas who began his pursuit of a career in acting in the difficult days of the Great Depression, Foote was able to find himself as a playwright while struggling as an actor in New York City in the 1930s. Writing stage plays and then working in early television, Foote developed dramaturgic expertise that he was able to apply to screenwriting, resulting in an academy award for his screenplay for the 1962 classic film "To Kill a Mockingbird". Later, he won another Oscar for "Tender Mercies" as well as a Pulitzer Prize for his stage play "The Young Man from Atlanta" (1995). This work includes a sequence of studies of plays, including "The Trip to Bountiful", "The Young Man from Atlanta", and Foote's great nine-play sequence "The Orphans' Home Cycle".
