This is a Civil War soldier's copy of "Manual of Bayonet Exercise - Prepared for the Use of the Army of the United States" by General George B. McClellan. 1862; J.B. Lippincott & Co.; Philadelphia. There are 24 illustrated plates at the back. The front and back covers have an embossed illustration of an eagle. This copy contains the personal library label of "Benj. S. Robinson" - this is presumably Civil War Private Benjamin S. Robinson who served in the 6th New Hampshire Infantry. Robinson was wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia in December 1862, and was confined to hospitals at Fredericksburg and Washington, D.C. The book is a technical guide detailing combat techniques, stances, and training drills for utilizing a rifle-mounted bayonet. It served as a key training manual for the Union Army during the Civil War. Condition: Bits of cloth are missing at the bottom half of the left edge of the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Mild foxing to the pages, primarily to the illustrated plates at the back, and on the rear pastedown. Tiny cloth tears at 3 of the cover corner tips. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Previous owner's book ID label affixed to the front end paper. Overall the book is in Good condition.…
