Meilleure édition française, comportant les annotations de Littré. L'édition originale parut en allemand, à Coblenz, en 1834-1840. C'est le premier traité moderne de physiologie. Il comporte les importantes recherches de l'auteur et constitue aussi une excellente synthèse des travaux réalisés en physiologie durant la première moitié du 19ème siècle. Johannes Muller (1801-1858) fut professeur d'anatomie et de physiologie à l'Université de Berlin ; il fut le plus grand physiologiste allemand de son époque.
