REFERENCES pour l'édition allemande : Garrison & Morton, 601 : "The first modern, systematic textbook on physiology, presenting an authoritative and discerning survey of each aspect of the science. According to Du Bois-Reymond, the book had a significance for the nineteenth century akin to that of Haller's physiological work a century earlier. Everywhere in the text, Müller's prodigious knowledge and own experiences came to the fore. His rigorous methodology, balanced judgment and complete knowledge characterized the entire book.".
