This volume presents a selection of the most important writings of Marie Curie, one of the most influential scientists in modern history. Through her groundbreaking research into radioactivity, Curie helped open an entirely new field of scientific discovery that would transform physics, chemistry, and medicine. The Marie Curie Collection: Writings, Scientific Papers, and Lectures brings together several of Curie's most significant works, offering readers a unique opportunity to explore her scientific ideas in her own words. Included in this collection are: ¿ Pierre Curie (1923), Marie Curie's biography of her husband and scientific collaborator Pierre Curie ¿ Autobiographical Notes (1923), Curie's reflections on her early life and scientific career ¿ The Discovery of Radium (1921), a lecture describing the experiments that led to the identification of one of the most remarkable elements in modern science ¿ The Nobel Prize Lecture (1911), delivered after Curie received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her work on radioactive substances Together these writings provide insight into the history of the discovery of Radium, the development of the study of Radioactivity, and the intellectual partnership that shaped one of the most remarkable scientific achievements of the twentieth century. More than a century after her discoveries, Marie Curie's work continues to influence research in nuclear physics, chemistry, and medical science. This carefully prepared edition brings together her writings for readers interested in the history of science, Nobel Prize discoveries, and the life of one of the most remarkable scientists of all time.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) was a pioneering physicist and chemist whose research transformed modern science. Born in Warsaw and later working in Paris, Curie conducted groundbreaking studies on radioactivity, a term she helped to define. Together with her husband, Pierre Curie, she discovered the elements polonium and radium.Curie became the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize when she shared the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel for their research on radiation. In 1911 she received a second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, for her discovery of radium and polonium and her investigation of radioactive substances. She remains the only person to have received Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields. Her discoveries laid the foundation for advances in nuclear physics, radiochemistry, and medical radiation therapy. Today Marie Curie is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists in history.
