This was the first separate map of this northeasternmost county in Maryland, bordering on Pennsylvania and Delaware. It was also Martenet's first publication, during or just after his service as city surveyor for Baltimore. After this map, Martenet did maps of many other Maryland counties, some before the war, some after, culminating in his 1865 official map of the state. See Ristow p. 397.
