49x40 cm. Lithographed print with a bust of Martha Washington. The portrait is oval within a decorative border. Very wide margins. Substantial water stain at the bottom right corner, not extending into the border. Several very short tears at edges. Likely taken, with some minor changes, from the Gilbert Stuart Athenaeum portrait. The imprint line on this piece has been scratched out, but is almost certainly by William Smith as it is clearly a companion piece for a portrait of George Washington by Smith. A fine, large portrait of Martha Washington, likely issued to coincide with the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers p00016
