Inhaltsangabe: Mary Ellen Mark, voted by the readers of "American Photography" as the most influential woman photographer of all time, has made some of America's most iconic images in a career spanning more than three decades. In "Twins," her fourteenth publication, Mark turns her acute eye and her heart to the extraordinary bond that exists between these very special siblings.
About the Author: Mary Ellen Mark earned numerous honors and awards including a Fulbright Scholarship, Guggenheim Fellowship, Cornell Capa Award, and the 2014 Lifetime Achievement in Photography Award from George Eastman House. During her lifetime, her photo essays and portraits were exhibited worldwide and appeared in numerous publications, including Life, the New York Times Magazine, and the New Yorker. Her photo essay on runaway children in Seattle became the basis of the Academy Award–nominated film Streetwise, directed and photographed by her husband Martin Bell, and was published in book form in 1988. Mark published nearly twenty books, including American Odyssey (Aperture, 1999), Twins (Aperture, 2003), Exposure (2005), Seen Behind the Scene (2009), Prom (2012), and Tiny: Streetwise Revisited (Aperture, 2015). In addition to producing her own work, Mark taught photography workshops for nearly thirty years; this book was one of her final titles, completed just before she died.

Buchbeschreibung 0, 0. Hardcover. Buchzustand: New. Twins Published by Aperture Hardcover New Photographer Mary Ellen Mark has made some of America's most iconic images, in a career spanning more than three decades and producing such published collections as Streetwise (1988), Indian Circus (1993), and Mary Ellen Mark: American Odyssey (1999). Here Mark turns her acute eye to the extraordinary bond that exists between twins. For two consecutive years, she set up a studio on the site of America's premier twins festival, Twins Days in Twinsburg, Ohio, and invited participants to be costumed and photographed in black and white with her Polaroid 20 x 24 camera?ideal for capturing fine detail even in a full-body image. The resulting body of work is a collection of variously beautiful and unsettling images, revealing nuances in the relationships of the twins she observed, from Roy and Troy Tesmer and their twin wives Amanda and Rhianna?who all live and raise children together and have all been known to chase around in hour-long sock-ball fights to blow off steam?to Walter and David Oliver, seen on the cover, both of whom never appealed to women and gave up dating back in 1960. The 80 portraits are printed as tritones to faithfully reproduce the subtle tones of the original photographs, and excerpts of Mark's interviews with her subjects are provided in a thumbnail index.
