Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

Second edition, with amendments. Hardcover. Full, original, leather binding. Front cover attached by top cord only. Lighter brown spine label faded. Gold rules on the spine. Boards bowed and edgeworn, scuffed. Some mild water damage to the final dozen pages and the top third of the first few, including the title page. (this damage is limited to some darkening and a ‘high tide’ line. Text block good and tight. Overall pages pretty good, with some waviness from age and sme toning. Early ownership name on the front endpaper, written right in the part that is darkened from the moisture, “John Neet’s Book / Lexington Kentucky / November 4th 1826” elaborately underlined. Small bookplate on the inside front cover with John Neet’s name and a simple ornamental border. Another name, more recent, in pen, on the inside front cover, “G. Davis Buckner / Lexington / KY”. Copyright page dated 1808. Xviii + 218 pages. According to chapter 2 of the book, there were 5 lodges in Kentucky by 1800, but they were organized under the Virginia masons. The Kentucky lodge formed in September 1800. Pages 183-208 are Odes, Anthems and Songs. John Neet and his family seem to have arrived in Kentucky before statehood (1792). The town of Neatsville is named for them. These Kentucky Masonic Constitutions were first published in 1808, and were the first Kentucky bound Masonic book. This is a copy of the revised edition of 1818. It was expended from 192 pages to 218. Extremely scarce. Please email with questions or to request photos.
