Marcus Aurelius wrote his famous "Meditations" during his campaigns against the Barbarians. They record the passing thoughts, maxims and musings on life and death of a sensitive and humble mind which had been trained in the Stoic philosophy that contributed so much to Christianity. Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: MARCUS AURELIUS ANTONINUS was born in 121 A.D., in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. He became Roman Emperor, and joined the legions in 167, to fight against the barbarians on the Danube. He then stayed in this region, leading a somewhat melancholy life, and wrote several series of reflections. He died of an infectious disease on camp in 180 A.D.
