Previous owner's initials on ffep and full name and date (1882) written on verso side of the frontispiece. Frontispiece with tissue guard. [5], 251, plus [3] pp. ads. 7.25 x 5 inches. Contents: Sir Thomas More, Sir Edward Coke, Sir Matthew Hale, Lord-Keeper Guilford, Chief-Justice Holt, Lord Mansfield, Sir J. Eardley Wilmot, Sir William Blackstone, Lord Erskine, Lord Ellenborough, Lord Eldon, Sir Samuel Romilly, and Lord Tenterden. Previous owner was Thomas H. Tongue (1844-1903) of Hillsboro, Oregon. Tongue was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1897 until his death in 1903. Prior to that he was a member of the Oregon Senate from 1888 to 1892. His legal career began when he became a lawyer in 1870 after graduating from Pacific University in 1868.
