A beautiful collection of engravings of Oxford architecture. In the publisher's original cloth binding. 39 plates depicting intricate engravings of Oxford from the River Isis, Oxford colleges, the University Galleries, the Radcliffe Camera and the Martyrs' Memorial. Nathaniel Whittock (1791-1860) was a topographical engraver, who published bird's-eye views of York, Oxford, Melbourne, Hull, and London. He lived in Oxford in the early 19th century, where he ran the Oxford Drawing Academy. He later became a teacher of drawing at Oxford University, and worked for the Ashmolean Museum. He was also a prolific writer of books on drawing. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with a little wear to the head and tail of the spine, and a small mark to the front board. A small closed tear and a scattering of spots to the title page.
