Beschreibung
A bright copy of this English language translation of the erotic love letters of French nobleman and prominent figure in the early French Revolution, the Count of Mirabeau. An English language translation of the love letters of Honore Gabriel Riqueti, Count of Mirabeau, a noble who was embroiled in numrerous personal scandals prior to the start of the French Revolution, and who nevertheless later acquired a reputation as a voice of the people, becoming a leader of the early stages of the Revolution.Though considered unattractive, Mirabeau used his charm to win the hearts of women throughout France. He began an affair with a woman named Sophie, better known as Marie Therese de Monnier. They fell in love, but Mirabeau was already on the run from the law due to an altercation over a different woman. In 1777 Mirabeau was caught, arrested, and imprisoned and began writing the erotic letters to Sophie that are translated in this volume, and were widely published throughout France. With the armorial bookplate of Antarctic explorer Sir Philip Lee Brocklehurst to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original quarter paper vellum binding, with paper covered boards. Back strip a touch discoloured, with spotting to spine label. Fore edge of text block age toned. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 815F1
