308p, octavo. A fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Silver on back cover of jacket lighlty rubbed, else fine. First American Edition, First Printing. A fascinating work on the history of the mirror from antiquity to the present - "the mirror has consistently occupied a unique place in our imaginations: as a site of the divine or demonic, of lucidity or madness. Sabine Melchior-Bonnet shows how the material world has worked its way into our consciousness, affecting the way in which we perceive ourselves.".
