He took great interest in the debuts of the Liberal empire, while trying to parry the blow which the Ultramontanes were preparing to deal to Liberal ideas by proclaiming in the First Vatican Council the dogma of papal infallibility. Third edition. With engraved frontispieces of the Comte at various stages in his life to each volume. In half-morocco bindings with marbled boards. Externally smart. Some light shelfwear to the spines and extremities and some marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound.
