Folded menu with pink and blue ribbon binding. Menu has an engraving of a milkmaid and a fairy on the front cover and hotel information on the rear cover; the menu is on the inside of the front cover and wine list on the inside of the rear cover; includes a 3-page guest list. 3 ¾" x 5 ¾". Sunday, July 22, 1883. Menu has light soiling and wear to corners, and rear cover has glue and paper residue affecting content. Overall very good. The Montezuma opened in Las Vegas Hot Springs in 1882 and was the largest, most luxurious building in New Mexico at that time. The original hotel burned in 1884, was rebuilt and then burned again in 1885, and was rebuilt and renamed the Phoenix Hotel in 1886. This menu, from the original Montezuma Hotel, offered Green turtle consommé, Cassolets of sweet-breads aux truffs, Buffalo tongues, and a plethora of desserts such as Lady cake, Jelly macaroons, Orange cream tarts, and Steamed pound pudding. About 120 names are on the guest list along with the guest's hometown. Guests came from all over the country including places such as Camp Supply, Idaho Territory, the Cheyenne Agency, Chicago and Boston.
