Inhaltsangabe:

Mother Goose ? The Old Nursery Rhymes is a collection of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, penned by the legendary (and only some claim imaginary), Mother Goose.? They have inspired many folklorists and illustrators (including Charles Perrault, Arthur Rackham, Jessie Willcox-Smith and Jennie Harbour) ? as well as countless generations of children and parents. In the foreword, Rackham states that he has ?chosen those rhymes I knew and liked best in my own nursery days... altering and adding to our old friend Mother Goose?s original collection.?

The Old Nursery Rhymes are accompanied by a series of dazzling colour illustrations by Arthur Rackham (1867-1939). One of the most celebrated painters of the British Golden Age of Illustration (which encompassed the years from 1850 until the start of the First World War), Rackham?s artistry is quite simply, unparalleled. Throughout his career, he developed a unique style, combining haunting humour with dream-like romance. Presented alongside the text, his illustrations further refine and elucidate the wonderful poetry of Mother Goose Rhymes.

Pook Press celebrates the great ?Golden Age of Illustration? in children?s literature ? a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration. We publish rare and vintage Golden Age illustrated books, in high-quality colour editions, so that the masterful artwork and story-telling can continue to delight both young and old.

Buchbeschreibung Read Books, United Kingdom, 2011. Paperback. Buchzustand: New. Arthur Rackham (illustrator). 252 x 176 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.This book is a collection of the best known nursery rhymes illustrated by Rackhams obscure, humourous and imaginative colour plates and black and white line drawings. Many of the earliest children s books, particularly those dating back to the 1850s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality, colour editions, using the original text and artwork so these works can delight another generation of children. About the Illustrator: Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) was one of the premier illustrators of the early 20th Century. He illustrated many books, the first of which was published in 1893. His humour, romance and soul made him the leading illustrator of the early twentieth century and his work is to be found in versions of almost every classic from Hansel and Gretel to The Tempest, from The Pied Piper to Peer Gynt. Characteristic of his work are gloomy forests of sinuous trees, nubile fairy maidens, and unsightly ogres and trolls. Throughout his career he developed a very individual style that was to influence a whole generation of children, artists and other illustrators. His haunting humour and dreamlike romance adds to the enchantment and fantasy of children s literature. Buchnummer des Verkäufers AAV9781446500118
