Inhaltsangabe: This is a two-part BBC 7 adaptation of Toby Hadokes sensational stand-up show about Doctor Who, fandom, and one mans lifelong obsession. Toby Hadoke was born to love Doctor Who. To Toby, a shy, weedy kid whose dad had left home, the Doctor was a hero and the show a lifeline he clung to throughout his childhood. He kept the faith when other boys mocked him, girlfriends dumped him, andworst of allDoctor Who was cancelled. After living in the closet for sixteen years, finally the time has arrived to come out and admit it: yes, he is a Doctor Who fan and proud of it. Climb aboard award-winning comedian Toby Hadokes TARDIS on a trip through time, charting the rise, fall, and rise again of a television legend through his voice-overs and reminiscences. A swift, personal, satirical, and razor-sharp comic odyssey from child to man, through obsession, joy, and disappointment, this will thrill and delight both hardcore fans and those who wouldnt know a Slitheen from a Silurian.

About the Author: FROM THE AUTHOR: I met Mark Attwood when we were comedic contemporaries, but we only really got to know each other one boozy afternoon when he spotted a homeless Hadoke in a pub clutching a beer and a Doctor Who Magazine. Thank God for that magazine; as a result he offered me his spare room and we've been friends ever since. One rainy Saturday, hiding from the ubiquitous Manchester downpour at a barbeque celebrating my second son's first birthday, Mark was talking about the million things he was doing (all successfully) and exhorting me to write a book ('you can do it in 14 days, it's easy'). I fobbed him off by saying I was thinking of doing a one-man show about Doctor Who—I wasn't, but hey, I'd got a title. . . 'You should do that,' he said. 'Oh, I will,' I lied. A year later I was missing my son's second birthday because said one-man show (produced and directed by one Mark Attwood, would you believe?) was storming the Edinburgh Fringe. Prior to this recording for radio and CD, the show has been through a number of regenerations. I first performed it at XS Malarkey comedy club in 2005, just to see if I could do an hour-long show about Doctor Who. One hour and twenty minutes later. . . I initially structured the show in four episodes, with the brilliant conceit of setting each episode in a different time period, not necessarily chronological, culminating in a bittersweet ending set during the wilderness years when the show had been canceled (the end of episode one of this production). I had all sorts of high falutin' ideas about gags working backwards and wrote thematically appropriate jokes which played with chronology. When writing jokes, the phrase 'are they funny?' should perhaps be higher on the list than 'thematically appropriate', as I discovered to my cost one night in Bolton. With the potential of kids being in the audience, I embargoed swear words, opting for a more whimsical tone with undercurrents of sadness (I adopted a fey agenda). This radio incarnation is markedly different again - some of my favorite bits from the live show stubbornly refused to make themselves adaptable to a different medium, so much of this is brand new. Apparently, now that I mention Doctor Who in my comedy, any merchandise I buy can be passed off as research and is thus tax deductible. Do make sure you catch my next show: Glamour Models Drank Champagne in my Lamborghini. If I'd been able to tell my maudlin 12-year-old self that I'd end up writing and performing a successful show about Doctor Who (and one which eventually attracted Doctor Who actors to take part), he might have realized that no matter what uncertainties and fears are thrown at you, life can exceed your expectations and be magic and surprising and fun. But then, he should have known that, he was a Doctor Who fan. Toby Hadoke.
