B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping, rubbing and beginning fraying. The text pages are clean The front inner hinge has cracked and been repaired. There is a previous owner's inked name on the front endpaper. "The Moving Picture World was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, Moving Picture World frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out Views and Film Index. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. The publication was founded by James Petrie (J. P. ) Chalmers, Jr. (1866 1912) , who began publishing in March 1907 as The Moving Picture World and View Photographer.". Firm binding. Former owner's annotations inked on front flyleaf (concerning what we believe to be the State Theatre in Easton, PA). A few pages internally show staining/discoloration from leaves having been pressed inside, and pp. 495-510 show mild liquid staining (just a minor discoloration on most of these pages). Walther is identified as the theater's Operator in a Jan. 22, 1922 Decatur Herald article about his non-fatal car crash with a young girl. Maroon cloth boards and gilt titling have darkened substantially with age, text remains clearly readable; black paint speckled around bottom edge of book and front end page; dust soiling to page block edges and boards; webbing peeking through at front hinge, but an apparent earlier re-gluing attempt has kept the hinge intact; binding otherwise sturdy and fully in tact; text, illustrations very good throughout.
