Mrs. Anna Brownell Jameson (1794 - 1860) was born in Dublin, Ireland and became a well-known British writer who covered a wide variety of topics, including art history, feminism, travel, poets, Shakespeare, literature, religious history, etc. This ten volume set seems to have been taken from earlier TIcknor and Fields edition and was bound in 3/4 leather with brown leather spines and corner tips over marbled covers with all edges marbled. The leather is deteriorated and the spines are detriorated and covers are detached in most volumes and the leather spine lables are gone. The contents are still intact, but this is obviously a candidate for rebinding, or possible rebacking. There are no owner names other other markings in the set. The set includes her famous Characteristics of Women Characteristics of Women as well as Diary of an Ennuyee; Legends of the Madonna; Legends of the Monastic Orders; Loves of the Poets; Memoirs of the Early Italian Painters; Sacred and Legendary Art, Vols.
