Beschreibung
Nabob: the First Canadian-Manned Aircraft Carrier; compiled, composed and edited from many sources by Betty Warrilow; published by Escort Carriers Association, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, 1989. From the blurb A highlight in Canadian Naval history was the manning of the aircraft carrier HMS Nabob by a Canadian crew. This carrier was a lend-lease vessel. She was commissioned in Seattle, Washington, September 7, 1943, and modified for British requirements at the Burrard Drydock and Shipbuilding Company Ltd., Vancouver. Her first Canadian Captain, appointed October 15, 1943, was H. Nelson Lay, a nephew of Prime Minister Mackenzie King. This is the story of HMS Nabob s short career which climaxed when she was torpedoed off Norway s North Cape on August 22, 1944. In 1984 Percy Warrilow, a stoker on HMS Nabob from December 1943-September 1944, was named curator of the Puncher=Nabob Association with instructions to start gathering information for a Nabob history. He volunteered his wife Betty to put the book together. This large format book, 210 pages is in fine condition in a very-good dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap.
