Der Autor (1756-1821) war Salzburger Domherr, Schriftsteller und Gründer der ersten Salzburger Freimaurerloge und spielte im Kultur- und Geistesleben der Stadt eine wichtige Rolle. Als Vertreter der katholischen Aufklärung und liberaler Schriftsteller setzte er sich unter anderem für Reformen in der Sozialpolitik, im Schulwesen und in der Landwirtschaft ein.
