A Good, contemporary full leather binding with gilt lettering on spine, moderate handling/scuffing to boards and spine, exposed board corners, leather a bit dry, joints splitting, sticker to bottom spine, rubbing along board edges, discoloration to pastedowns and endpapers, scattered foxing to text block edges and throughout, text block a bit pulpy, dent top rear board edge, cracked rear hinge, chip bottom corner page 297/298 partially impacting text. This volume has several other pieces bound with it: The Athenaeum of November 15, 1832 featuring an article on James Fenimore Cooper (with engraved portrait); the Athenaeum for December 1, 1832, which continues a Conversation with Lord Byron; The Cabinet, vol. V No. 2, New-York, May, 1831, which begins with an attack on slavery and the slave trade and ends with the 1740 New York Conspiracy; finally a long (pp. 397-512) May 1828 magazine opening with an essay (fragment) on the Constitution of the United States with a southern slant. It has the same map of the Nile from the Cataracts to Ibrim. Legh travelled in Egypt during 1812-1813 with Rev. Charles Smelt, whose journal Legh used in this narrative. Exploring above Aswan, they reached as far as Nubia, where they were among the first modern explorers to examine the temples.
