In this work, Du Pin attempted to cover early church biography, literary criticism, and the history of church dogma. Du Pin corresponded with William Wake, the English Archbishop about the possible unity of the English and French churches (Du Pin was a Gallican). He also worked on a plan to unify the Roman and Greek churches while in residence at Czar Peter I's French estate. It would be interesting to consider what effect Du Pin's synthesis of early Christian teachings had on his yearning for an united Christendom. The influence of Du Pin's work was not limited to a French audience, and was an important work for the Anglican Church.
