A new edition, corrected, 1818. Pp lii 354 with a frontis and 9 further plates. Rebound perhaps fifty years ago in brown buckram with the original paper title label replaced on spine. Uncut edges, a very firm and tight copy. Scattered spotting, a few early manuscript notes on the endpapers. ***Mrs Rundell's cookery book was probably the most popular cookery book of the first half of the 19thC. First published in 1806, it reached its 65th edition by 1841. Born in Ludlow, Shropshire, she married a rich London merchant. The book's immediate and continuing popularity was largely due to the fact that it covered almost every aspect of household management, and was an ideal present for a new bride. See Oxford p 135 and Quayle, Old Cook Books, pp 118-120, where the book is discussed at length. This book often turns up in not very good condition, but our copy is much above average.
