Beschreibung
4pp.brochure. The front page has a cokoured priinted engraving depicting Killiney hill, beach and Bay. The text underneath the print is in printed handwriting and refers to Mr.Burford's description of the scenery from Killiney Obelisk a shown by his beautiful panorama exhibited in Leicester Square, London. The follows a description of the view from the Obelisk. The verso page is blank. On the third page is another coloured engraving. This is of the Obelisk and with deer on the foot of the hill with people standing below the obelisk admiring the view. The text under the print reads: "KILLINEY OBELISK Erected. A.D.1741 To give employment to the Poor." Then it reads: "Admit Mr___________to the Obelisk Strand." The space between Mr & to is blank to allow for the filliing in of a name. At the bottom margin the text reads: "This order to be shown on each admission. The gate keepers are not allowed to let in dogs, or receive any gratuity. No admission on Sundays." The back page is blank.Light wear & creases. A few minute perforation holes. Undated, but circa 1840-70. A very fancy brochure perhaps produced to commemorate the centenary of the Obelisk. The Obelisk was commissioned by John Malpas a wealth Catholic who owned the land in response to the Famine of 1840 & 41 to provide work for the poor. In recent year it has been restored by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council after years of neglect Extremely rare item. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 017457
