The second printing of Samuel Palmer's edition,' abridged, corrected, and methodized, with many additional anecdotes and several new lives,' the work being an evolution and compilation of various publications by Calamy from the early 18th C. 'Well adapted for explaining the causes and justifying the spirit of the nonconformist separation. In choosing for his central figure Richard Baxter, Calamy emphasised liberty of conscience as the keynote of nonconformity.'- DNB.
